Problems on X41t: Bluetooth and cursor jumping to the bottom

#1 Post by Adam » Wed Jan 25, 2006 10:46 pm

First problem: I've been having problems with the bluetooth on my x41t since the day I got it. I have a bluetooth GPS receiver that I thought was broken, but it seems to be the laptop that is the problem. I've been able to pair the devices, but I'm not able to connect to the GPS.

I've tried using the IBM bluetooth drivers, as well as the Microsoft drivers, and neither work. The GPS works fine on my desktop with a cheap USB bluetooth receiver. The laptop also works when I use the USB receiver on it using the same Microsoft drivers. So it seems to be something with the bluetooth chip in my x41.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could get this working? This is actually a fresh install of Windows XP and the newest bluetooth driver... so I'm not sure what else I can even try.

Second problem: Apparantly random... my mouse cursor hops to the bottom middle of the screen and clicks. This all without even touching the trackpoint and no other mouse plugged in. It's not in the exact same spot everytime either. If I leave it, it will hop around randomly within maybe a 1 square inch area. I have no clue what could be causing this but it's extremely annoying. Any ideas??

Thanks in advance!

Well, I guess no one had any advice. I ended up taking it in to an authorized repair centre listing these problems as well as the HD 0 cache problem that I never got around to getting replaced.

I'll post a reply once I get it back with what the diagnosis was and how/if they fixed it.... for future reference incase anyone else has a similar problem.

I didn't know they were replacing the hdds . I thought it was kind of established that the 0 cache thing was a reporting error in the software, am I wrong?

Yeah I don't know actually. Probably not. I actually called today and they are waiting for a part to come in. They are replacing 2 parts in total... including the system board. Not sure what the other part is or which part they are waiting for. It's pretty crazy that the system board needs to be replaced (or maybe they just don't know what else to do).

I talked to them today, and the part they are waiting for is the hard drive. So looks like they are replacing it.

Interesting, you'll have to keep us updated as to which one you get. But I have a feeling its going to be the same one as there are only so many 1.8" drives that'll work with our tablets.

Yup, same drive. Finally got it back today after 3 weeks and it still reports 0 cache. On the other hand, they never actually replaced the motherboard or anything else. The guy on the phone a couple weeks ago gave me the wrong info. So I assume my mouse will have the same problem and the bluetooth too.

the support guy should get a good talking to for authorising a replacement hdd for the 0 cache issue - read the other posts on it - there is no problem with the drive - they have cache!

there are drives that you can get which will report the 2048 cache but they operate slower so I know what I would rather have.

Adam,

Just today I decided to nuke the IBM factory install and re-install with a clean copy of XP. Ive noticed a definite improvement in the performance of my tablet. I haven't fully installed and tested all of my applications yet, but I suspect they will be quite a bit snappier without 75% of the IBM apps eating up resources.

Check out the link in the sticky and go for it! It might solve the cursur problem.

Yeah, they fixed everything OTHER than what was actually giving me problems! Mind you, I don't hear the annoying clicking noise on this drive anymore, so that's definately a big plus.

Hey defiant, I'm going to do what you suggested. I was reading the instructions and it said to copy 4 folders from the tablet, including DOCS. After all the IBM updates, it seems that there IS no DOCS folder anymore. Did you experience this too? If so, what did you do about it?

Thanks,
Adam.

I was wondering about the mouse problem too. I am also having that issue and it is very very annoying. Also, how do you do a fresh install of XP Tablet. I followed a guide posted somewhere on there but with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks!

Late reply, but I never got my mouse problem fixed. The computer is in the shop right now getting a 3rd motherboard and 3rd keyboard (for some reason... none of the keyboards were ever bad.)

Lets hope the new MB fixes it.
