X41 crunching noise AND no dvd player

#1 Post by tinac » Sun Jan 29, 2006 10:33 am

Hi everyone,

I am a first-time PC owner who needed to make the switch from Macs to PCs when I started law school in the fall. This forum was incredibly helpful as I set about making my decision, and I absolutely love my X41 computer (all of my fellow students with back problem from lugging around their heavy Dells and are very jealous of this little guy!)

I have two questions about my computer that I was hoping someone might have come across.

1. The computer makes a constant "crunching" noise. It's quite loud and sounds unnatural. I did a search for this topic on the forum, but it was last addressed in 2004, and my computer was brand new in 2005, so I would have thought that Lenovo would have fixed this by now. Any ideas/suggestions for a fix?

2. My computer came straight from Lenovo with all the fixin's - except the software needed to play DVD's! I thought watching a dvd would be "plug and play" but when I tried the computer told me I don't have the right software.

Thank you in advance for your help. Have a great day!
tina.

Agree with you there :)

It may well be this is not your problem, but I ran into similar messages frequently when trying to view copy-protected DvDs. I found they arose when I connected the computer to the base after I had turned it on. (I suppose because something about the copy-protection wasn't properly initialized when the computer was turned out without the DvD drive connected.)

Putting the computer in the base first and then turning it on seemed to fix this.
