Question about X32 on battery power

#1 Post by silo » Mon Feb 06, 2006 5:27 am

When I set my X32 for max battery it runs the CPU at 197 MHz, and I made a special power scheme that sets the CPU to maximum (should be 1.8 GHz) and brightest screen and the machine runs at 599MHz. is this as it should be? Is there a tutorial on setting up power schemes somewhere?

I don't think it's running on 197MHz, just Windows misreports it so. Dynamic switching takes place between 599(600)MHz and 1.8GHz.

Setting the power profile to Portable/Laptop should be good - it will cause your CPU to dynamically switch between 600MHz and 1.8GHz when needed, whether on AC or on battery, thus maximizing performance and minimizing power consumption, when performance is not needed.

Actually I'm pretty certain that my laptop is indeed running at 197 mhz when it says this. Web pages that take 2 seconds to load, normally, take 20 seconds to load (not joking), when it says 197 Mhz. The machine is virtually unusable until you put it on "high system performance". The mouse won't even travel across he screen - it hops, instead!

Lots of thinkpads (10+) but I would never be so stupid as to list them all because that would spam everybody's searches and people who *do* try to list them all would be jerks.

Try using CPUZ to monitor real-time CPU frequency and the CPU load using Windows Process Manager or the more detailed Sysinternals Process Explorer.
