X22: Can I get that fan to stay on? How do I lower the temp?
X22: Can I get that fan to stay on? How do I lower the temp?
The fan only likes to come on near 60C. The laptop seems to idle(532mhz) around 45C, with the fan off. However, once the cpu goes full speed at 800mhz, the temperature goes to 65C(max) and the fan comes on.
Should I be concerned about these high temperatures? I've used speedfan and notebook hardware control to get the cpu temperature.
I tested full load by using seti. I don't intend to use seti on this laptop, but just as a way of seeing how hot it will get.
I've applied arctic silver to the heatsink. However, I didn't take off the old yellow paste from under that silver sheeting. I also used a layer of aluminum folded to make it thicker and for more contact. I didn't check temperature at full load before I did this so I don't know if it improved or not. Wish it had more air vents, the duct for the fan is the only place where there's a hole.
What temperatures do you guys get at full load?

hmmm.. It maintains 64C under full load, but within 15 seconds of shutting off the program, the temperature goes back down to 55C and slowly dropping. I guess that's the sign of a good heatsink. Now at 45C only 2-3 minutes later. Still slowly dropping.
I guess I don't have much to worry about if it can just hold the max temperature at 65C.

I'm worrying again. On my Dell I400 700mhz laptop running full load, the fan comes on at 60C, but then the cpu temperature DROPS to 47C.
I'm going to go to a hardware store and see if they have any thin copper sheets. I don't think my aluminum trick is working. I should also scrape off all the old yellow paste.

I found a thin sheet of copper and cut out 2 squares.
I removed the old yellowish paste and the silver square before applying Arctic Silver and the 2 copper squares.
My CPU temperature is now 59-60C at full load. This is 5C lower than my last experiment. Too bad I didn't have software to measure temperatures before my experiments. Maybe the temperatures were better before I did anything....
I'll never know now.
Anybody else measure their CPU temperatures? Or am I the only one?
