X22 Battery Problems

#1 Post by ephem » Fri Feb 10, 2006 8:47 am

Just a quick question about my "new" X22 (2662-95W).
The battery(FRU P/N: 02K6846) that was included with the unit is playing up, and I was wondering if anyone could help me rectify the problem.

The Battery LED on the ThinkPad is Yellow and NOT flashing. Even though I leave the TP off, but on charge, the LED doesn't change to green, or even blink yellow. Removing the AC power source, while the machine is on, results in an instant power-off.

Under Battery MaxiMiser Gauge (on the taskbar), the battery appears to be at 100%. However, hovering the mouse over the Gauge, it says something different "The battery was completely discharged and needs to be recharged. This may take 10 or more hours."
Looking at "Battery Information" it appears that the battery is completely flat, and requires a full recharge.
"Battery Health" is green, and indicates that "The battery is in good condition"

I have included the information from the "Status Detail" tab, under "Battery Information"
Status: Charging
Remaining Percentage: 100%
Charge Completion Time: -
Remaining Capacity: 655.35 Wh
Full Charge Capacity: 655.35 Wh
Current: 0.01 A
Voltage: 65.54 V
Wattage: 0.07 W
Temperature: 6280C
Cycle Count: 65535
If you need me to include an image(s) of the Battery MaxiMiser Gauge and Battery Information window(s), I'll have no problem doing that.

Thanks, in advance, for you help.

Regards,
Matt.

Wow, that thing is running hot, and I've never seen one with so many cycles.

Seriously, I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling the power manager software and drivers. Those readings simply cannot be right.

Thanks Asiafish, thats what I was going to do next. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

I know the cycles don't seem right. 65535 comes up alot in programming. If I remember correctly (Thinking back to high school, when my 380XD was the go :D ) its the maximum value an unsigned integer can be. So I doubt that the battery has had that many cycles, its just the maximum number of cycles for that variable.

As for the temperature... 6280C would probably mean I couldn't use it on my lap

Actually, it would probably mean that you couldn't use it within a kilometer of your lap.

I just re-installed the power manager software and drivers and no luck...

Any other suggestions?

Hmmm, if there isn't anything wrong with the software, then that would tend to suggest a hardware issue. Perhaps something is up with the battery? :?

Yeah, I thought so... But I didn't want to admit it, and have to buy another battery.
It got me to bring everything up-to-date on the laptop though :D

I just found a genuine battery for the X22 for AU$20 delivered, and it looks like a winner.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Did you try shutting down the laptop, unplugging AC adapter and taking out battery and putting it back in?

I got the same error today on a generic battery. I did the prior steps and the information went back to normal. I found that advice in another battery thread in this forum.

Thanks, I have already tried that (and numerous other things). Think the battery is gone :P It's all good though... It can be my "AC on" battery, when I don't need to charge a working battery.

How muh is the average price of a battery for a X 20 series?

#10 Post by chanbru » Tue Feb 21, 2006 5:14 am

I need one and I've seen some people selling in online stores for $150. On Ebay I've seen a lot for $50 +$25 for shipping from China. Has anyone ever bought one from China? I guess I am still afraid of buying from unknown sellers.... remember they were notorious for the cheap and unreliable products?

I just got a genuine 3.6AH battery for my X22, and it works great. I got it for AU$20, but I think thats a one off... It gives me 3 hours battery life... I'm making sure that if another one comes up, i'll snap it up and give me 6 hours.

Ephem,
are you saying you paid only $20 bucks for a battery? Where? How? When?
Tell me about the shipping and handling fee... how much more?
cheers,

I got it off eBay Australia (since I live here :P) for AU$21 (US$15.50) delivered (AU$9 for the battery and AU$12 for the postage).
It was just luck, I did a search for X22 stuff, and it come up with like 10 minutes to go. So I kept my eye on it for the last 10 minutes and I got it cheap!

It gives me ~2.5-3hours off one charge. Big change from the other battery I had, which makes a great paper weight by the way :D

Little tip for eBay:
I usually just do a search for "x2*" (minus the quotes, notice the * wildcard), and then click "Computers And IT" and all X20 Series items come up...
Because most items in the x20 series are compatible between the models, it makes life easier... and buying options greater.
