OK, bear with me. I'm a little dense in the best of times. I have an X32 which I quite like. Been adding and subtracting things, and just installed a 5400 Seagate drive and did a full recovery & restore from CD/DVD.
Immediately thereafter I went to the IBM site, downloaded the new(ish) automatic Software Downloader and set it to run. Well it found that I needed 20 or 25 things, so I downloaded and installed all of them, including the Access Connections, Easy Eject, Keyboard Customizer, Presentation Director, Rescue & Recovery, Software Installer, Thinkpad Configuration, and a lot of other stuff, including the Intel Pro Network Adapters & Drivers, Intel Proset for Wired Connections, Intel Proset Wireless Software, etc.
Or maybe the Intel stuff was already on there.
In any case, the Access Connections seems to me, like much of this stuff, to be fatty tissue which is already available in Windows XP Pro. In fact, I was having trouble with the Access Connections setting up to connect to my wireless network at home so I set it back up as "let windows handles it" and it works much better.
So now I'm wondering how much of this IBM stuff I can uninstall, and which of these named softwares I should NOT uninstall? Any advice in this regard?
I'm delighted that IBM/Lenovo provides an easy way to keep the software updated, but there was precious little information in the Software Installer about which were useful and which were not particularly useful. It did say "required" and "suggested" or some such, but I'd like to get more information on it from people who actually use this stuff.
Thanks in advance--
Silo
Thinkvantage IBM Software Downloader & Installer questio
I use a good AC, Pres Director, Sys Migration Asst and Keyboard Customizer, but not the others. No harm in uninstalling them if you don't feel you need them. Do a search as this has been discussed quite a bit in some of the more general areas of the forum.
