Preliminary report: Hitachi 7K100 80G in X32

#1 Post by silo » Wed Feb 15, 2006 5:18 am

I used to have a Hitachi 7K60 60G and when I put it in my X22 and later my X32 I thought it caused too much vibration to be satisfactory. Tonight I installed a new Hitachi 7K100 80G 7200RPM drive in my X32 and it seems to cause much less vibration than the 7K60. It is also very fast. As in surprisingly fast. Haven't messed with it too much, so this is very early note, but so far so good. Pleased, I am.

We installed a Hitachi 100GB/54pp RPM HD in our X32 and it is relatively quiet. Works fine and without a hitch.

For others thinking about the 7K100 series of Hitachi drives, I've had this 80G in the X22 for a week almost and while it is not silent it is very inoffensive, a quiet, slightly metallic hiss. Drive is very responsive, fast, really makes the X32 (already fast with 1.8GHz Pentium M Centrino) feel like a speed demon. Highly recommended.
