New X32, Wifi problems

#1 Post by Zaroff » Wed Feb 15, 2006 4:21 pm

Hello all,

I'm a brand new Thinkpader, I just bought an almost new X32 off of eBay, got it today, and everything so far works fine.
BUT, there's a strange problem with Wifi connections: on batteries, it seems to shut off power for the wireless card every three minutes or so, whether I'm actively browsing or not, whether connections are managed by XP or AC. Each time, I have to go to the tray icon, and re-activate radio power.

What am I doing wrong?
Is there a setting somewhere that manages this? I looked hard and didn't find it. Is the card defective? I wouldn't think so, since when it's powered, it works flawlessly.

Scratching my head here... :?

Any help is welcome, thank you.

Cheers.

I found this same problem with my X41. I did a fresh install for XP and after that I did not install IBM access connections ad all. Now I have a tray icon for XP built-in "monitor icon" only. Everything works fine.

The problem could be your wireless router. You may want to upgrade the firmware of your router. Also, make sure you have the latest version of Access Connections.

Thanks for the help, but it was in fact very simple - in AC you do have to set the power saving mode to "low" in order to keep the connection alive. Weird, though, that in other modes it shall disconnect even while active... ah well.

Are you using the latest intel driver? If you go into device manager and right click the 2200BG driver, the window comes up. Under the Advanced tab, there is an option for Power Management. You should select Highest (for maxium power).

Maybe it is conflicting with the setting in Access Connections...
