I use these often in X2x laptops and they work great. They have an advantage over other Thinkpads because the wireless card is right against the side of the laptop. Install the antenna right next to the wireless card with the wire side of the antenna ceramic pressed against the plastic side of the laptop. After playing around with the setup for a few hours that's how I always got best signal, so now that's what I do and the whole install takes me 5 minutes. I've probably installed a dozen of these for different kids X2x laptops with simple Intel 2100 wireless B cards and I get them internal wireless with about 80-90% signal strength at 40 feet from my router (through one wall) for about $20 in parts cost. Can't beat it for price and ease of install. Would a larger in-screen antenna work better? Maybe. But the cost is more and the install time is far, far greater.

Good Luck!

By the way, your same eBay seller seems to have a similar (or is it the same... I'm language impared?) antenna here: http://cgi.ebay.de/1-HITACHI-WLAN-mini- ... dZViewItem

brainpicker, can you recommend a good modem/wireless 802.11g minipci card? What's the general price?

Can they do WPA encryption?

atheros cards on ebay are pretty cheap.. They have abg and super-g and all the encryptions. I have one and so far it's working nicely.

Cool. Thanks. I guess I'll just use the modem card as backup. I was hoping to find a good/recent card that had both modem AND wireless.

I'm a tech guy and once in a blue moon might want to do something with modem.

Atheros card and the antennas that brainpicker suggested should be find for my X22, right?

Do I need up make any firmware changes to my X22 so that it will accept the Atheros card? I remember reading that IBM doesn't play with other makers..

Actually, just curious, what makes these antennas so expensive?
