Is there really any difference between the batttery life of 6 cell battery's compared with 8 cells? In reality is the difference no more than an hour or slightly less?

Anyting? Am I to believe Dorin with his 8-cell claim of 10 hours?? Or is this with low brightness and no wi-fi?

Or do I stick with most peoples claims that they get close to 6 hours with the 8 cell and 5 hours with the 6 cell?

Anyone on this forum?

Battery life...

#3 Post by x40guy » Sat Mar 11, 2006 12:59 am

I believe I have the 8 cell battery. When my computer was new, it seemed like it would get nearly 6 hours out of a battery. Now it less, but I think it's still 5 hours.

Since I don't usually need long battery life, I run it at high performance (7 bars). I like a bright screen.

Best laptop I've ever owned. It great for packing on a trip. If I could change one thing on it, I would like to see a DVD player in the base. The docking station just makes the machine too heavy and too thick.

ok,
for the skeptik ones , with 8 cell results, please go http://

when you're in train or plane you dont need the wifi, right? so, i can get as much as in the pic only when wireless off, no mp3, lcd lowest possible, and i run only ms office gama (word, outlook, excell, project) and voila!

when i play movies i go to about 6-7 hrs or normal work as mentioned above plus mp3 it goes till 8-830 hrs

as i said, nch 1.10 (check in "undervolted=> longer battery" thread for settings) and fan control 0.18

what you expected, need for speed for 10 hrs?!!

have a great day,

Dorin,
Thanks for the help. Just 2 quick questions:

1. Which brand hard drive do you recommend for quiet operation- model #?
2. Do you think it matters which chip you have on your X40, 1.0, 1.2 1.4 1.5, will all give the same battery life, which one do you think draws the least power?

Thank you, JL

hi there,

first of all, i dont know if HTC426040g9at00 is the quiter one, just this one i got as replacement. check the benchmark test at www.bocanila.ro/hdd

i'm very pleased with it, its quiet, no more driving insame high pitched noise, and as fast as a 4200 could go.

about cpu and battery life, it should be logically that the 1.0 would consume way much more less battey than 1.5, but now how less i cant say. now pdedends on what you want to use it, myself i'd have bought a 1.2 if were any model available, but only 1.4 was on that time available in romania. i use moslty for ms office, movies, and highest application is photoshop cs2 and i'm more than happy with it. i will boost it to 1.5 gb ram (max supported on my model) and that should add some speed

and remember, if you want high bat, always close the applications( including the ones running in background- task manager shuld show them all) you dont need.
for ex if my wifi is switched off why would i need the antivirus to be running when no external data will come in?!

enjoy long bat and you;ll love the x40 series! its my fav laptop of all times, i will replace it only when a version with dvd-rom incorporated (and will not sacrifice the size) will be available.

dorin

ps: have you consider x60 series? due to dual core cpu the bat lasts abit longer, and it has a 7200rpm hdd which is a higly diff than 4200...its more expensive, being new model, just wanted you to be aware of new serie
