Keyboard problem: 4 second delay on repeats

#1 Post by djvd » Sun Mar 12, 2006 6:34 pm

Got my new X41 Tablet, but when I try to repeat any keystroke, it takes 4-5 seconds before I can enter the 2nd stroke. And the auto repeat doesn't work either when I hold a key down. (same problem for external keyboard or for thinkpad keyboard).
I've got plenty of RAM (1.5 MB)
I've tried: installing all the windows and Thinkpad updates, unchecking everything on the startup (thru msconfig), lifted the keyboard to check that the connector is seated properly-- no luck.
Tech support wants me to mail the tablet back so they can reformat, but I've spent lots of time getting the system set up for our office network & installing new software, so a huge hassle.
Any suggestions/fixes???
Desperate!

Try this:

In Windows XP (and maybe Win2K)

Start -> Control Panel -> Keyboard.

Move the repeat delay slider to the right (shorter delay).

Alternatively, you can change the BIOS value. I cannot remember what this is without rebooting but should be

Config -> Keyboard

in the BIOS menu. You can adjust the rate there too.

If only it were that easy! That was the first step I tried-- no luck!
