x24 with 1133Mhz running at 730mhz

#1 Post by carloqv » Tue Mar 21, 2006 9:01 am

Hi Folks,

I have a problem. I've recently bought an X24
and noticed that the processor is running at 730Mhz
instead of the Processor rating of 1133Mhz.
I've played around with the powermanagment settings
in windows 2000 but the frequency doesn't change.

I noticed that the multiplier is set at 5.5 where it should
be at 8.0. I've checked using different software such as
cpuz, sandra, rmclock and they all say the processor should be
at 1133 Mhz.. but it's running at 730Mhz

anybody have an idea why this is a the case.
is there a way to set the multiplier... somwhere in the motherboard
or hidden bios setting... or maybe I'm just missing something
very obvious

thanks
Carlo

Your thinkpad seems to start with the lower speedstep setting. I think there is a bios option for the startup speed. Windows 2000 can't change the speedstep setting out of the box.

You need to install the Intel speedstep driver. I think this is the right driver, but I'm not really sure:

Hi,

I think you should give the bios settings a try. look at the power settings. I think your setting is processor speed "fixed low" you should change it to fixed max. that should help

Hi Folks... I've tried installing windows xp and now the processor is reported running at 1.13ghz...

I've also took your suggestions and looked into bios ... and everything was at the right place ( processor set st Maxx )

I guess there was something messed up with my windows 2000 installation

thanks everyone
Carlo

I have changed the Mobile Pentium 3 of my T21 from 750MHz to 1GHz - The bios setting for Power Mgmt = Fixed Max & Intel SpeedStep setting (in Bios) = Maximum Performance. But, when I take the battery out & use AC instead it goes 695MHz :( With the Battery + AC = 1GHz.
T21 1GHz 160GB 512MB DVDRW
770 233Mhz 288MB 10GB DVD
Presario 1700 1.06GHz 512Mb 160GB CDRW-DVD
:)
