My new toy (x22)

#1 Post by latchlock » Fri Mar 24, 2006 5:12 pm

I just got my x22 in the mail and I am pumped. First, let me say thank you to all that post on this forum since it has been the guiding force in convincing me to buy this amazing little machine. I'm running XP Pro with 128mb of ram and I have to say I'm imipressed with how well it handles.

Planned updates are an intell 2200 b/g Mini - PCI card, 512 ram, new battery and maybe a new hard drive.

A few questions I have are below if you could help me out I'd be very grateful:

1. How do I get the scroll button on the trackpoint to work with firefox? It seems to work fine when I use IE but it won't work when I use firefox.

2. Anyone that's installed wireless antennas, is there a specific kind i need for th 802.11 b/g? I'd like to install them in the LCD i've removed the pannel keyboard etc. Is there a walkthrough that was most helpful to you?

I'm sure I'll have many more questions but I appreciate all the help and look forward to more topics in this forum.

Congrats with the purchase!
Yep, you definitely need more memory.
The scroll button works fine with mozilla on my X22. Did you upload all drivers from IBM.com ? That could be a solution..

The antennas should be the same for b/g card. Search forum for a guide it has been posted here numerous times.

My experience with installing antennas in a T22 LCD cover that was not wireless-ready (in which case it would have already had the antennas in it) was that I actually got better reception with the antennas under the keyboard and palmrest. Plus, that install is a lot easier. I ended up using a 3Com x-jack PC card wireless card, the antenna retracts into the card, my range is better than home-brew antennas plus I still have my modem and nic in the miniPCI slot, and I can turn off the wireless radio to save power simply by retracting the antenna. Search the form for xjack and 3Com for favorable comments.
