I know it's probably a no....but X30 Wifi w/ 2100B?

#1 Post by mybellyisempty » Thu Apr 06, 2006 8:54 am

I bought a T42 off RDH, and replaced the 2100B WiFi antennea it came with with the 2915ABG.

So, I have a 2100B sitting around that I have no use for.

I gave my fiancee an X30 almost 2 years ago, and while she loves it, I don't really care for the WiFi PCMCIA card she's using. I hate things sticking out of laptops...and I know she can get an internal card for it. (At the time, $20 for a B was better than $55 for a B).

Does anyone know if there's a way to get the 2100B to work in the X30?

Yeah! Stick it in the mini-PCI slot and connect the X30's internal antennae.

It's not an issue of physically installing it.

I know I can do that.

I'm just curious about the whitelists and everything. I'm curious if I'll be able to install it and have it magically work, or if I'll put it in, and it'll come up with the error saying it's an unsupported miniPCI device, please power off and remove.

Granted, I'll be able to find out first hand next Friday when she comes down...but if anyone's tried and knows it does or does NOT work...it'd be helpful to me.

Sorry for being less than clear in my reply. When I said just install it, I meant that the 2100 was one of the cards that the X31 came with from the factory.

Yes the X31 will recognize it, yes it will work, no 1802 error.

....except that the unit in question is an X30, not an X31.

If it were an X31, I know it'd take the 2100B, as 1. That was the original Centrino setup, and 2. I had a 2100B in an X31 that I owned (after pulling it from my T41P and putting the Atheros ABG in the T41).

But, this is the X30 that I'm talking about. Pentium 3-m...not Pentium-M ;)

DOH!!

Mea culpa! I've got X31s on the brain.

In that case, I don't know....

But, it should work fine, I've had the same card in my A30p without any problems or warnings.

I've put a 2100B in a X30 I used to own. Worked perfectly. No problems at all.

The P3 based offerings with wifi do not have a whitelist (my T23 took a dell 2915 with no problems at all, all X30 and earlier/ A30 and earlier should work fine with any card) this problem started with the T30/P4 series laptops AFAIK... Then again, the X30 was released around the time of said P4 notebooks on account of the P4 drawing too much [censored] power and running too hot, so it could have a whitelist, but a highly doubt it.
