When was the first X41 (non-tablet) introduced?

#1 Post by domi » Sun Apr 16, 2006 4:20 am

There seems to be a missing link between tabook.pdf and tawbook.pdf: the former only includes *tablet* X41's, whereas the latter (version 291, May 2005) hasn't got a single X41. The X41 did come out first as a "normal" (non-tablet) ThinkPad, didn't it?

I'm trying to extrapolate the availability date of the X61 based on the following data (obtained from tabook.pdf/tawbook.pdf):

first X30: Sep-2002
first X31: Mar-2003

first X40: Feb-2004
first X41: ??

first X60: Feb-2006
first X61: ??

Thanks, Dominique

I received my 1st X41 in May 2005. It had 7 dead pixels so I sent it back and ordered others as time passed and quality improved. I ordered an X41 Tablet the first week of June but I didn't receive one until August.

Good luck figuring this out. Remember that announcements and delivery are quite different and for non-corporate folks can be as much as 3 months apart. I've always just bought what I could afford at the time I needed a better laptop and let these releases take their course. If you are holding out for an X61 no matter what, why not pick up a nice X40 from the Marketplace now, where much of the depreciation has been taken out, then use that until you can get your X61, maybe next Easter (yes, shameless plug for my nice X40)? Many are available there at great prices.

Thanks for the info! I guess not much can be extrapolated from these dates :(
Anyway, my X31 is only two years old and it's still serving me perfectly. At the time I purchased it (to replace my X22), the X40 was already available. Its price wasn't much different from the X31, in spite of the novelty factor. I hesitated for a while between the X31 and the X40, but in the end I settled for the former, mostly because of the HDD. I think the X32 and the X60 are proof that IBM/Lenovo recognized many users just didn't want a small, slow and non-standard 1.8" HDD. If I were to replace my X31 during the next 6 months or so, I'd definitely pick up the X60, which is better than the X40/41 on all accounts IMO (price isn't an issue).
