X31: Fan beneath keyboard, upper right, buzzing sound

#1 Post by zyphria » Fri Apr 28, 2006 12:31 pm

As part of breaking in my X31 I bouht through Retrobox, I've been letting it discharge as part of reconditioning the battery. I had the mainboard replaced last week since the system was powering down/shorting everytime I plugged the AC in directly. Well now I'm getting a light buzzing sound from that area.

I'm not an electrical engineer, but I suspect that because the fan is idle (not on), that there is some kind of electrical leakage (right term?). I called into IBM and they're going to bring a replacement fan, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem

At this rate I'm going to just ask them to replace the mainboard with an X32 board and call it a day :)

I had a similar problem before and I had to send in my notebook via EZ-Serv. They replaced my M/B twice. However, the buzzing noise was still there.

If I recall correctly, the problem was fixed when they replaced a "?????" part. I don't remember the name of the part - hence the "?????." I do remember, however, that the part was related to the contol which regulated the dimming of the LCD. HTH.

Ah, I'll forward that info along, as it sounds like the trigger mechanism.
