T Series differences from X Series and vice versa?

#1 Post by TarzanBoy » Sat Apr 29, 2006 7:50 am

I tried to do a search on this topic, but the search seems to be currently broken.

Could someone highligt the main differences between these thinkpad models? Someone said that the X series is the most compact?

Did you look at the specs in tabook? See item #1 in the FAQ.

In addition to looking in the tabook files, I will let you know that the video quality on an X series isn't as nice as the T series, but it is still nice. (I mention this because your first request was for a TP with 64mb video, and now you have dropped it to 32mb) The X31 series has 16mb video, and the X40 has 64mb integrated graphics, instead.

The most noticable difference is that the X series has NO optical drives built into the system itself....you have to have an ultrabase to be able to connect to a floppy or optical drive.

An ultrabase is not required, any "simple" USB external drive would be fully sufficient.

Yes, you are correct. I meant to say that you need to use the UltraBase to use the Thinkpad optional drives that they list as options in the tawbook.

You can connect a usb floppy or CD/CDRW/DVD/DVDRW drive, but the Ultrabase will allow you to add an additional battery, in lieu of an optical drive.
