#1 Post by ANDS » Mon May 01, 2006 3:54 pm

Will this MiniPCI work in an 2673-FU7 X31? (Couldnt find any listing for that model in a TABOOK or the older ones).

MiniPCI

Oyeah, it's definitely a 2200bg.

It'll work for your X31 if you have an updated bios.

Ok I have received the MiniPCI - installed it on the mobo (there was no modem connected on the mobo or the card so Im assuming its not needed for just the wireless card). It boots past post and doesnt give me the "MiniPCI Non-Compat" error, but when I get to Windows XP - I dont see anything, not even "unknown device". I know I put it in correctly and thats not a problem and the retailer has said that it a new unit.

Do I need to install a driver or something? If I did the device would still be listed in SYSTEM.

Any help is appreciated.

Sorry, I just realized that you said that it doesn't give you an error. I missed that. You wouldn't need the no0-1802.com patch.

For anyone else that might use that link....the link that I provided was to the instructions. If read all the way through the instructions, it provides a link, though in text style versus a hyperlink.

Try going into the bios and check you haven't "Disable internal wireless" (or similar)....

Went into BIOS - and wireless is enabled. In fact all those options are enabled.

Im just snackered as to what it could be. The card went straight from the box into the machine, I didnt over any large magnets or anything. . .connectors are snapped on right.

The retailer is sending out another card just in case this one was toast. . .but barring anything I dont know about - the way it was packed makes me think thats pretty unlikely. We'll see.

It could very well just be a defective card. Hopefully, that is all that it is.

Well I got a new one in today. . .same thing - no go. No error, no recognition in ThinkVantage connection center.

I connect the white chord MAIN and the white chord AUX to the two circle points (pointing to the right - just like on the display diagram on the website, and I have a no go.

I guess I have no choice but to go with a plug in adapter which sucks because i wanted something that didnt stick out like a sore thumb.

I really dont know what to try at this point -

You probably tried this...but I thought my T42 didn't have Bluetooth until I hit Fn-F5 and clicked "power on", then the computer found it, installed the drivers.

Well - you know when you get a new gift, you baby it and dont want to do any damage to it. Every time you handle the unit, you take extra sooper care -

Well I did that. . .to a fault. After going through the MINIPCI install movies on IBM's website for the last hour (after placing two service calls to IBM), I noticed that the card was being pushed all the way into the socket. I didnt do that - or didnt know to do that, because it took a good amount of FORCE to push the card in - so I figured as soon as I met resistance on the slot, that it would be enough.

Sure enuff - I pushed and it popped in and I get the 1802 error.

And thus we cap off a week of hairpulling and general frustration.

Im sure this ranks right up there with the "My computer wont work - Is it plugged in - You mean the chord thats unplugged?" type questions.

EDIT: Ok Im a little confused. . .I got the no-1802 program from the guys website, but where do I run it? Do I run it from inside Windows XP - or outside it (I hear conflicting statements). If I run it from DOS outside of windows - how do I create a boot disk (I have no floppy disk drive. . .anywhere).

EDIT 2: After an hour and a half of stumbling - i got it to work. Now I need a wireless router.

Is there anyway though to tell where a wireless connection is originating from? I see a ton of 2WIRE connections - which I presume is either the wifi spot in Ceaser Chavez park, or home connections. Then there is a default one.

Ah well - good times.
