X31 Dim screen

#1 Post by coolname1 » Thu May 04, 2006 8:54 pm

I recently purchased the x31 from Retro box with a dim screen. I then got the screen replaced from IBM already but it is still not as bright as my old t42. The brightness under max setting seems to be equivelent to the normal brightness setting. Does any1 have any idea what is wrong? I'm not very familiar with the screen of Thinkpad X series since this is my first Thinkpad X. Is the screen suppose to be dim like that? I'm thinking about calling IBM up again and try to get another LCD screen. Thank you

I don't know about the X31, but my X20 is dimmer than my T20, T21, T23 and my R40.

Hi

I have an X31 and an T43 and the screen on the T43 is much brighter at max setting. Its also an SXGA+ Flexview screen compared to the XGA non-flexview screen on the X31 so i think its normal that it is not as bright.
But you can go to settings/advanced/color and just push the brightness and contrast up. And save the profile. Thats what I done on my X31 and I am happy. Also the X series screen are not all that god compared to highend T series screens.

Hope that helped you alittle..

You could try adjusting the display brightness in the BIOS:
F1(to enter BIOS)->Config->Display->LCD Dark Brightness->Set to Disabled (can also adjust the Brightness to High)

This will keep the same brightness setting when using the battery or the AC adapter.

Thanx for the tip but I've set my brightness to max in the BIOS already.Beside, I don't think the X31 has the LCD Dark Brightness setting in the Bios. I could be wrong though.
Also, I'm comparing this laptop with the Dell 600M and the 600m is indeed alot brighter than it as well. Is it possible that other componet of the laptop is broken instead of the screen? Thank you

Does anyone know if the X31 mahcines used fluorescent bulbs in the LCDs? If so, it is possible that replacing this bulb could restore the factory brightness to your screen (This was possible on Apple PowerBook G3s, I'm hoping the same idea applies here.)

Oh, I think it's common case after you used X series and Tseries.

From my experience, T should more brightness than X.

I love this machine!
