X22 lights out!

#1 Post by cLOWN gOD » Tue May 09, 2006 2:54 am

I was hacking away at my X22 when all of a sudden the screen flashed and went black. It works fine with an external monitor, and I replaced the inverter but it's still dark.

Does anyone know from experience whether there is a tendency for the LCDs to go bad, or more likely the ribbon cable?

It's totally black. -It will post (and display normal video) only when hooked to an external monitor.

My guess it's the cable....

Major possibilities are: system board, cable, inverter, switch (that turns off backlight when lid is closed, sometimes this gets stuck). If you've reseated the cables, checked the lcd switch and replaced the inverter you've hit the most likely culprits.

So you're down to cable, system board and lcd. The laptop I've seen with a simliar problem (video only on external display) ended up being the system board. Unless the cable shows obvious signs of wear or physical damage I would tend to think this is a long shot.

You have probably tried this - but maybe worth mentioning anyway. One of the Function (Fn) combinations turns off the internal monitor display (so display is only showing on external monitor). I think that its Fn + F7 - but I'm not sure. Could this be it?
