Can I change the hard-disk used on x40 to that used on x60s?

#1 Post by hutty2000 » Sat May 13, 2006 3:07 am

I really think the X40 is slow just because of its hard disk, so can I change it to the hard disk used on x60s?
X40 P1.5G, 1GB, 40GB 1.8 HDD + 100GB 7200 rpm HDD in the Dock, DVD Burner. (Looking forward to changing the 1.8 HDD to a SSD when price is acceptable)

I think the X60 series uses 2,5" SATA drives, and then the answer is NO, 'cause your X40 has a 1,8" drive...

It is really a bad news. I do not think my CPU is slow, nor do I think the memery is small.
The HD is really a bottle neck to my X40.

I do not think it is just the hard drive.

I think the main reason the X41 tablet is so slow is IBM loaded too much cr^p in the system for the low powered CPU to handle.

I Agree, I clean install of the system sometimes makes a big improvement

Yeah, doing a clean installation definitely made my X40 faster. Also, increasing the RAM from 512MB to 1.5GB should help -- I think that's mentioned in a recent thread.

The X41t I was setting up for someone was so slow. Even getting rid of nearly all the bloatware, shutting down unused services etc, it was slow. I don't it was the winxp tablet version that was slowing it down, rather the hard disk. Compared it with a toshiba tablet with 5400rpm hdd, as it was so much faster.

I would love to have a tablet, I hope the X41t successor would have a proper 2.5 hdd.

The usual tricks about removing bloatware, turning off unneeded services, etc, will not speed up the X41T very much. You have to reinstall the OS to get a marked speed improvement. The result is very worthwhile; it can be a fast little machine despite the 4200 rpm hard disk.
