Odd problem with my x40. Rescue and Recovery won't work.

#1 Post by teex40 » Tue May 16, 2006 11:24 am

My x40's harddisk was just broken and I replace it with a new one. It works well with an external enclosure.
I had no CD recovery with me, so I order from IBM and the CD match my model (2386-5fu). There are 7 CDs.
When I put the new hard drive on my x40 and try to install the rescue and rescovery, it went through from the recue and recovery CD to the last one.
However, once the system start to retore the factory state, it fails to install every time. I have been trying like this for more than 20 times. Also I called lenovo and they sent me another set of CD. Those new CDs fails to recover my system too.
When I try to install my friend's windows xp home on my x40, it works well. (The windows is from retail)
Just wanna know if there is anyway I can install these rescovery CDs on my laptop. Or if there is a way to install xp pro from any CD but using the key that's on base of my x40.
thank you everyone for helping,
tee
