X41 lockups

#1 Post by nige » Tue May 23, 2006 4:18 am

Hi
I have recently completed a rollout of x41 in the states and am getting reports of intermitent lockups and freezing. I have changed batteries and motherboards on a number of machines. has any one else found these machines to be unreliable.

Ibm have come up with no answers other than to change mother boards all laptops run xp and have the latest updates as of 01-03-06

Thanks for any feed back

Is it related to any application in particular or just a windows freeze?

just windows random lockups on both mains and battery only thing you can do is turn the machine off . ocassional will hang on a light blue screen

nige:

I can't vouch for the X41 but the tablet version, the X41T, had the same problems. My machine would freeze up or do something unpredicatable at least once per week, usually when I was standing up in front of a group doing a presentation.

The fix for me was to wipe out the IBM-supplied factory image and reinstall Windows from scratch. I did this in January and the machine has been 100% reliable since. Not one freeze, glitch, lockup or blue screen since! Several of my coworkers have done this to their tablets with similar results. Maybe this will fix your X41s.

I wiped my x41 immediately after I got it and I haven't experienced any of these problems. So I guess it could be the default IBM software?
