X40: SQUEEK! Spacebar...

The spacebar on my X40 is starting to squeek! Whenever i hit it... a slight audible squeek. very annoying. Any way to get this fixed?

I have found a workaround.

Try to hit it with the second thumb.

Usually when you're writing you touch spacebar with the right tumb, try it with the left for a while and squeeze will be gone.

It sounds like the squeaking just occurs with normal wear and tear. This is why the side that you use most often with your thumb squeaks and not the other. I'm not sure if it is possible to stop the squeaking other than by replacing the spacebar itself. Has anyone tried to take apart a problematic spacebar to see what is going on underneath?

My spacebar not only was registering a squeek, it also wouldn't register the key properly (- 80% of the time only).

I just called for a replacement. It's only forty dollars for a keyboard from IBM parts.
