Should I upgrade x40 512mb RAM to 1GB RAM?

#1 Post by chintapun » Thu Aug 05, 2004 5:40 am

I mainly use Office Application (Office 2003 Pro) Internet and Email. Sometime I use Photoshop CS for editing digital pictures and MindMap for Project planning

Lately, I do find that x40 (1.2gh) response slowly especially when starting up a new application. Hence, i wonder whether it would be wise to increase Ram to 1GB. If anybody has 1GB ram on X40, please let me know the significant of performance gain.

Thank you

i've read somewhere that, for a machine running basic office apps like the ones you list, 512MB is the optimum. 1gb can apparently slow the machine down. Even if it didn't, not much point in having 1BG of RAM, i reckon, when there is a bottleneck in the system as a result of the 4200RPM hard drive.

For what it's worth, i ordered a 256MB kingston chip with my system and installed it right away. I use the same apps as you, and i find the system quite zippy.
