Anyone using the "mini" PCMCIA port on X30?

#1 Post by lowie » Sat May 27, 2006 11:39 am

I am somewhat puzzled about the use of the "mini PCMCIA" port located next to the PCMCIA bay on my X30 Thinkpad (at the lefthandside, somewhat in the middle). It looks exactly the same, pops out with the blue button, but what is it for?

Anyone...
* ...who knows what this "port" is used for? Typical apps?
* ...still actually using this feature? As it is not present on my (newer) T40, I reckon it's some kind of legacy technology?

Actually, it is pretty kewl. Easily removeable storage!!

I think, but I am not sure, that you might be able to make it bootable. This would allow you to boot a different OS like linux without having to mess with your hard drive.

You can put any CF compatible device in it you wish.

E.g., GPS, Bluetooth, various and sundry adapters, etc., etc.
