x21 and samsung hard drive.

#1 Post by pcnoob » Sat Jun 03, 2006 12:41 am

I bought this hard drive from newegg because of the good reviews and suggestions from a member here. It said it's whisper quiet but as far as I can say it isn't.

The seek noise is LOUD. What's worst is that once in a while(1 in a week i think) it will make this loud noise which sounds like the read head just snapped back inside and somewhat like something just cracked. At first I thought I grip the laptop too hard and some part of the plastic had broken but now I am sure it's the hard drive since I heard it for more than 6 times now.

I don't know if this is how it operates but I think I might've got a lemon. As for how it operates, I can say that it's faster than my previous one and without the annoying ringing sound. It's the Samsung MP0402H. Anyone have this drive? I am not sure about sending it back because I am don't now if it's defective or not so anyone give me some help please? Thanks.

Hi

I have tvo Samsung Notebook drives both of them 80GB ATA amd they are both dead quiet, I also have an Fujitsu 80GB ATA and an Fujitsu 40GB ATA(4200RPM). And the Samsungs are as silent as the 4200RPM Fujitsu drive.
So your drive must be defect or maybe there is something loose in your hard drive caddy that makes rattle noise? .
Almost every review site I have visited on the net all say that Samsung drives are on of the most quiet only drive that is more quiet is the 4200RPM Fujitsu but its not an noticable difference.

So bottomline there is something wrong, the drive or the caddy.
