Has anyone else had trouble with heat from 7200rpm HDDs?

I think my Hitachi 7K60 HDD is failing as my system is starting to hang with the HDD just making wizz and clicking sounds in a continual loop.

I've run a chkdsk /f and it replaced some bad clusters. That worked for a couple of days now I have the same problem. This time the check disk has been running for 48 hours and is still checking! It's found thousands of bad clusters.

I noticed that the Hitachi drive always ran much hotter than the old stock drive it replaced. I've been using the Hitachi for about 2 years now. Do you think the high temperature eventually caught up with it?

Has anyone else running 7200 drives experienced any heat related problems?

Should I replace the drive with another 7200 drive or go for a slower 5400 drive?

Got a 7K60 in my son's X31, no temp problems whatsoever.

Download and run the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test (DFT) and see what it says about your HD.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. Right now I'm trying to get a backup of the drive before it dies completely.
