X31 able to use 160GB (or eventually larger) drives?

#1 Post by wvancamp » Wed Jun 07, 2006 11:15 pm

Has anyone been able to confirm yet whether the X31 can use drives >137GB, like the Seagate 5400.3 160GB drive, for the primary internal drive? I'm using the 120GB Samsung fine, but ~137GB seems to be a magic number and I'll be interested in eventually upgrading to be able to get more(all) of my music collection on it.

Thanks,
Warren.

Geez, is there even a 160G HD in the market? I am even cautious to use a 80G hard drive for mission critical use.
currently own X61S, T42, X31, Macbook Pro Unibody i5

There are 2.5" 160GB HDD out for laptops; right now it is only Seagate, later Hitachi will release their 160GB as well.

Not sure about the size limitation on the X31, but I don't think there is one on it.

Toshiba har just released an 200GB harddrive for laptops. So soon the market will be flooded with big 2,5" drives. So if your gonna buy an new drive wait until the end of the year.

I think there is no problem with having an big harddrive in the X31 as long as you have service pack 2 for WindowsXP you should be fine.

I don't think my X31 is going to like one of those SATA drives... :-)

That is a 4200RPM HDD as well; even though it is SATA, that is primarily for those who use the HDD to store lots of stuff and don't need the fastest HDD I/O access you could get...although SATA does help.

X31 needs PATA-drives!
Btw, I currently use a Seagate 120GB in my X31.

I just installed a 160GB Seagate drive in my X31 without any problems. It formats to about 147GB.
Thinkpad #6 - A31p 2GB, 1X60GB , 2 X 100 GB
Thinkpad #7 - X31 120GB Seagate, 2GB Ram - best thinkpad yet. (my shoulder thinks so anyway)
