New X40/ X41T user, few questions.

#1 Post by bigtiger » Wed Jun 21, 2006 2:03 pm

Hi, just report that I am proud X40 /41t user now.

I got a good deal on an X40 with dead motherboard. Last week, I got a X41T motherboard and have put it on the X40.

Today, with the 60G 1.8inch harddrive from Brent, I installed everything. It works like a charm.

The motherboard I ordered is actually a X40 MB, but it just turns out that it is a X41T motherboard.

Anyway, I am now a proud X40 / X41 T user (X40 base with X41T motherboard). Need to learn a lot from members who have X40 and X41t.

Few questions:

1, what is the difference between X41 and X41T? I am pretty confident that my motherboad is X41T. I tried to upgrade the bios assuming my mb is X41, it does not work. I then upgraded my bios assuming it is X41T, it worked.

2, I got a PXE-E61 error initially, but when I disable the boot from Lan option, the error is gone. Is this normal?
currently own X61S, T42, X31, Macbook Pro Unibody i5

I own X40, X41 and X41T laptops. The big differences (to me) between the X41 & X41T are size, weight, layout, screen, OS, and some features like where the T has this phamton software "drive" that acts like an optical drive. The rest is about the same. As for the "PXE-E61 error"... re-seat the hard drive and try again. Sometimes this is all you need. Other times I've seen this in laptops where the user ignores the IBM warning that hard drives are not supposed to be taken out and re-inserted often like portable drives and the connector becomes damaged. Since your insides are new that's not likely the case but who knows. The BIOS is saying it can't see the intended boot device.

Good Luck,

Hi, Thank you for your response. I tried many to re-seat the hd, no go. I guess I will have to keep the Boot on Lan option disable to suppress the error.

pxe is what boot from lan does, the error is because the machine can't find a source on the lan to boot from. You could leave it on if you wanted, but change the boot order so it boots from hard disk first.
