x21 battery issue. important, please help

#1 Post by knuckless69 » Sat Jun 24, 2006 10:58 am

Hello
I've noticed that the battery isn't working anymore.
It is (was) healthy, ran for about an hour just a week ago when I last undocked the laptop.
It's as if it wasn't connected. When I pull out the plug the laptop shuts down instantly. And does not start unless I plug the charger.
The only "unusual" thing I did was to test ubuntu live 5 and also 6.
I did reinstall windows (as I had to) but the problem is still here

Thanks in advance

Any way to tell if the battery is dead or the mobo has a problem (as seen on some other posts here on the forum) without having to buy another battery?

Your options to test this without buying a new battery are:

1: Borrow a battery from a friend.

2: Let a friend with an X2x computer put your battery on his computer and see if it works.

3: Test your battery with a multimeter to see if you get any voltage. However, doing so doesn't guarantee that your computer doesn't have a hardware problem, even if the voltage in the battery is zero. For example, the charging circuit might be fried.

I just had the same thing happen to my X21, but I had the option to swap batteries with my X24. It turns out that the battery was just dead (no activity whatsoever, and no charge at all). The most likely thing is that your battery is dead. If that was an original X21 battery, it has to be at least 4 years old, so it isn't surprising actually that it finally died.
