x41: close lid does not cause standby, anybody know why?

#1 Post by bigtiger » Tue Jun 27, 2006 2:00 am

well, I know my questions are kind of tough to answer as most of my questions are not answered in the past.

This is yet another tough question.

I changed my motherboard on X40 with a X41T motherboard. But I found that now the standby function when closing the LCD (lid) does not work.

Anybody has any idea how to troubleshoot?

edit

By the way, I can use the Fn+F4 to quicky make it standby. Actually all short-cut functions from the keyboard works fine.

Also, I did connect the wires from the lid-switch to the motherboard. I hope that X41T does not have any extra capacitors other than a plain switch.

If you haven't already, make sure the settings are set to "Standby" on lid close.

That is, go to Control Panel -> Power Settings -> Advanced. One of the options is "On lid close...", and you can choose from a few options ("Standby" and "Do nothing" are two that come off the top of my head).

Hope that helps!

Isn't there an option in the bios about if the system should suspend when lid is closed?

But the reason might be that tablet PC's aren't configured quite the same way since they have those fancy options with the screen. I have no experience with this so it's just a wild guess.

bigtiger:

Maybe because your machine is a hybrid between the X40 and the X41T?

An X41T has two switches in the lid (I presume); one to sense when the lid is closed and one to sense when the screen has been rotated into the tablet (slate mode) position.

Perhaps your new X41T motherboard is looking for switch contacts that don't exist in your X40 chassis.

K0lo, you maybe right. Thank you very much. :o

I remember that when I install the motherboard, I found there is one vacant port. I guess that might be some sort of sensor.

Anybody with a X41T can concur with this?

Actually, K0lo, can you tell me the difference between a normal xp and a tablet xp?

bigtiger:

The vacant port is more likely to be for the Wacom tablet device that's part of the X41T's screen.

XP Tablet Edition is just XP SP2 with some add-on code to support the functions of a tablet PC. It adds driver support for the Wacom tablet, the pen and eraser, and adds additional software support for handwriting recognition, "ink" markups on-screen, voice recognition, etc.
