x20 hard disc upgrage

#1 Post by graemefaulkner » Thu Jun 29, 2006 6:56 am

Hi guys, i just found this forum by accident but i am pleasantly surprised.

I currently have an x20 with the standard 20gb hard drive which i would like to replace with an 80gb.

Does anyone know of any problems or incompatabilties i might have. im running xp so there shouldnt be any software problems, i was just bothered if the motherboard might not support a disc that high given the limit of 320mb of memory.

It should work fine as long as it's PATA.

Welcome to the Forum Graeme.

The X2x and X3x series of Thinkpads will take any 2.5" PATA HD presently available.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS installed for your system and you shouldn't have any problems with the upgrade.

Yep, it's the "regular" kind of harddrive (IDE 2.5" ATA100...) non SATA.
I think the biggest available now is 160gb.
