weird sound

#1 Post by sachinjauhari » Sun Jul 02, 2006 9:56 am

Hi there,
I have this x20 and it emits a strange krr.. krr.. sound !! (almost like the sound of the hard disk working) when the battery is in the laptop and charging. The sound disappears when 1. the battery is fully charged 2. The laptop is run directly from the mains and battery removed from the system and 3. when the laptop is run only on the battery (so I guess it has something to do with the charging process). any help would be great.
PS I know the best solution would be to get a spare x20 battery and try the laptop on it but nobody I know has a TP!!

If it is a HD scratching sound --> Bad news
If it is just HD moving or vibrating sound --> Relax nothing wrong, it's normal

So is it scratching sound or vibrating sound?

1 more thing: did you set your HD to work at very slow speed during the battery usage and set it to highest during the the time when you use your electrical AC?

Weird sound

Hi there,
Hey thanks for taking the time for helping me out. well it's definitely not the sound of the hard disk because the hard disk sound is audible along with this sound and it is present even when the hard disk is not working but it does seem to change as the hard disk works, it is more like the electrical "krr krr". I turned my notebook around and put my ear to it and it is loudest at the spot where the manufacturing information is typed. And like I said it is present only when the battery is in the system and is being charged from the mains. :( Oh and it disappears as I scroll up or down!!! :?:

I know I had that problem with a strange hissing noise when I had the volume too high, it dissappeared when I turned down the volume and also when I scrolled... very strange...

Hi Seneca,
Unfortunately the sound is not coming out of the speakers but from almost exactly below the PCMCIA slot!!! :(
