Guys, I need your help! I was surfing the net two days ago on my beloved X40 using the built-in Intel wireless card. The operating system was Windows Vista Beta 2. Suddenly, I lost connectivity. The LED indicator for the wireless card was no longer lit, and pressing Fn + F5 couldn't turn it back on. PC Doctor couldn't even detect any wireless cards (only the modem and ethernet)! Is my wireless card dead? I went to the BIOS and found that the card was still enabled. I noticed one weird thing though: the Device Manager showed that the driver was dated July 31, 2006, and it was still July 2 -- could that be done by a virus? I rolled back the driver to the one provided by Windows Vista (dated June 21, 2006, I think) but that didn't help, although the wireless LED turned on for several seconds right after the rollback.
Is there anything that I should try before contacting Lenovo?

Hmm
Hi there,
Actually almost the same thing happened to my portege a couple of months ago, but I was on Win xp pro and the wireless LED was still on. I reinstalled windows and it started again. But if the LED is off..!!! Then the wireless hardware might be dead..sorry
but you can give it a try by unistalling the device completely and reinstalling it.

Re: X40 wireless suddenly stopped, can't be re-enabled
Your wireless card is a mini-PCI card located under the panel on the bottom of the laptop. (The one with the three small screws) I suggest shutting down, pop open the panel, flip the clamp that holds down the card, take it out, then immediately put it back in and restart. There are detailed guides with photos, provided for service reps by IBM.. sorry I don't have the link, if you google kindly post it up. If reseating your card doesn't work, try taking it out fully, turning it on, shutting down, reinstalling, then turning it on.
