More RAM

#1 Post by sachinjauhari » Wed Jul 05, 2006 7:19 pm

Hi All,
I am using a Thinkpad X20 2662 with WinXP Home and 192 MB RAM. Should I expect a significant surge in performance if I replace the 128 MB module by a 256 MB one, making a total of 320 MB (Max an X20 can support)?? Cheers!

Yes.
"An atheist is just somebody who feels about Yahweh the way any decent Christian feels about Thor or Baal or the golden calf. As has been said before, we are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further."

Yes you would. I owned a x20 maxed out and it ran much faster than with 192mg.

Not to hijack the post, but has anyone actually tried a 'bigger' stick of RAM in a x20? I have ran into some PCs/laptops that will work fine with more RAM than the manufacturer says will work...

The chipset in the X20 series can only handle 512MB, iirc. Put in a 512MB stick and you're over the limit and the system won't boot. It would be possible if there were a way to hack the BIOS so that the 64MB RAM on the systemboard was disabled. I've never heard of this being done on an X-series, though I've heard of it on older models...
