Personally I can't wait for the 1Q of 2007:
New chipset
New processor
New onboard video
But I personally would like a new form factor. 13 inch widescreen is too big in my opinion, an 11 inch widescreen would be perfect however!
Where do you want the future of the X Series to go?

Some of the suggestions are also in this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=28029
Quickly, I would like to see 1) flash based disk, 2) DX9 PS2.0 GPU with 128MB of video memory, 3) Merom CPU, 3) slimmer/thinner machine, and 3) design a full size keyboard (like X31) with a windows key.
Keep it simple. It's a business machine! I could care less about wide screen, DVI connectors etc. I don't use it to play games or watch DVDs.

I can only agree. I like the X3.. series a lot, sturdy yet compact and very mobile.Keep it simple. It's a business machine! I could care less about wide screen, DVI connectors etc. I don't use it to play games or watch DVDs.
As ultraportables are machines that have to take a lot of beating, I feel the X-series should stay as sturdy as, or better than the X3_ (even TPs have some occasional weak points, a creak here or a little crack there).
I'd like to see:
- a brighter screen that works well outdoors in bright daylight (it's a bit washed out in the X30 I have)
- a fair bit of fast video RAM, not for gaming but for handling downloaded photos while on the road; 32 MB would be enough.
- lots of main RAM so one could switch off the Windows pagefile (i.e. a really large RAM module as standard, say 1GB)
- a multicard reader in place of, or in addition to, the CF card slot (of course it should also read CF, as most digital SLR cameras still use that)
- a BIG harddisk (for all those huge digital RAW photo files)
- excellent wifi/IR/Bluetooth/Wimax/GPRS and whatever connectivity built right in and working straight out of the box without need for fiddling with updated drivers etc. I.e. something a lot better than Access Connections
- battery life can always be better, and a low voltage CPU would help
- Why not a media slice that can be disconnected and keep working totally without wires? Why not a dock that is also a wifi router so one can access it from all over the house/hotel room/conference hall/etc. and use all the peripherals connected to it? And that works right out of the box with your X-series TP? Rip out the laptop from the dock and just keep going as if it was still docked.
T42 (14"/250GB/1.5GB; NL; with minidock); R51 (15" flexview/40GB/1 GB). X31 (12"/320GB/1GB); T42 (14"/60GB/1GB; FR)
