how to know if a card if atheros or not?

#1 Post by bigtiger » Tue Jul 25, 2006 10:25 pm

I see a lot of discussions on Atheros card. Can somebody tell me if a card is Atheros? Is Atheros a brand or just the chip inside? If it refers to the chip only, then how can we tell if a card is Atheros or not?

Thanks.

Atheros is the name of the manufacturer. When it comes to thinkpad parts, atheros cards are the "IBM wireless" series. Most common is the a/b/g versions. You can check if you have one of these cards by going into the device manager and look what wireless networking adapter is called. Otherwise, check under the mac-address sticker on the mini-pci card. It should say Atheros and "AR5212" or similar on a chip.

The other common manufacturer is Intel, with its PRO/Wireless line. Otherwise known as Centrino. So if you have a centrino sticker on your lappy, you have this card (and a pentium m). Otherwise, check as above.
