Throttling at 250mhz with X40 ?

#1 Post by Magnum » Sat Aug 05, 2006 5:08 am

Hi all! I just aquired my first IBM laptop, a magnificent x40! This is a great forum and I just want to say hi to everybody before I "dig" in :) IBM are the best! (not that I need to tell you guys that though) he he

Anyways, when I just got my X40, and was using it in batterymode, the properties in my computer said 250mhz, but after tinkering with the power manager, somehow almost all the default powerprofiles dissapeared! Not that I was gonna use any of them anyways, I was making my own, but it is still weird, and even when I uninstall the powermanager and install it again, only 2 default profiles come up.

I dont know if it has anything to do with the throttling problem though. So the question is: Is there anything I can do to make the cpu throttle down to 250mhz again? It only shows 585mhz (600mhz) now., and also NHC only supports minimum 600mhz (although it can throttle internal to 300mhz or lower). I figure if I can use it at 250mhz, then I should squeeze just a tiny amount more from the batteries.

Thanks for all suggestions!

In power manager (or battery maximizer), create a new profile and change your CPU setting to "slowest". It should work.

However, I have to warn you that on boot up, the slow CPU speed seems to delay startup by around 20 - 30 sec.

IMHO, it's best to just leave it in 'adaptive' mode.

HTH.

Solution: Uninstall NHC :) I wish there was a undervolting program that doesn't interfere with the IBM power manager.
Still..almost all the power schemes just dissapeared.
