1400x1050 on external TFT with X31?

#1 Post by _erazor_ » Sat Aug 05, 2006 10:11 am

I am planning on buying an external TFT with 1400x1050 resolution in 20" size.

Can the X31 drive an external screen with that resolution? Maybe with a different graphics-driver than the IBM supplied one?

I've never seen an external TFT monitor with that resolution. Do you know of any? I would like to know, since I like that resolution personally.

One sample is the Samsung 203B:

I believe that this is an ideal resolution for a 20 inch monitor.

another question:

can an X31 (which we all know only has 16 megs of video ram) drive an 20" LCD or Wide LCD with 1600x1200 or 1680x1050 ?

that would be lovely to know cos I intend to buy a BIG external screen

and, knowing that DVI is impossible, is it of any worth buying such a big TFT ?

or will it look like crap because of connecting it with VGA ?

Well, I wouldn't buy a TFT with a lower resolution than 1400x1050. I also have the 203B in my mind, currently using Iiyama 4332UT. But I really want to see its performance live. The next in (my) line, S2100 from Eizo, is a huge step in price.

Don't you have a local dealer who has in in stock? You could carry your X31 with you and kindly ask to plug it in. Should not be a big problem.
