New Hard Drive - Help Please

#1 Post by leesiulung » Fri Aug 11, 2006 6:11 pm

I just bought a 60GB Hitachi Travelstar drive to replace my 40GB drive. However, have a few questions before I do the operation:

1. The hard drive basic faq mentions the 2010 error. Does this error apply to the X31 as well?

2. What is the hidden partition used for? Do I need it to enter Rescue and Recovery before the Windows boots?

3. If I would like to keep the hidden parititon how do I do it without using Ghost as described by this thread? Does IBM have a utility to do this? I have the recovery CDs, but it does not put in the hidden partition...

3. What is the best way to partition the drive? Fdisk?

If anyone can help with any of those questions it would be much appreciated!!!

The recovery CDs most definitely DO recreate the hidden partition.

I received the recovery cd from IBM and popped them in, but no recovery partition was created... I let the process run until the end...

Am I doing something wrong? Just follow the screen right...

Was the 60 gb drive unpartitioned?
How do you know the recovery partition was not created. It is hidden.

actually, when I used the disc last time it wasn't on the 60gb drive but another 40gb drive. I couldn't access the pre-boot area by pressing the access ibm button on boot-up and the size of the windows partition...

I will try again today and report back...
