Well, I've had my tablet for a year now and I still love it, but the 8-cell battery's capacity is considerably less than it used to be. I used to get five hours, but now it's barely above two. Yeah, I use iit a lot. I've reset the battery gauge through the power management utility but have only seen small gains from this procedure. So, I figure it's time for a new one. I'm a graduate student with three hour long classes, so I need something that can last at least that long and am not always able to plug in. I don't like the clip-on-the-bottom extended battery because it might prevent the computer from fitting in my custom made fits like a glove case (www.sfbags.com - highly recommended - great people, great product). I also don't want to mess with generic brand/eBay batteries (I don't want a Dell-like grilled tablet sandwich in my lap). How hard can it be to buy a replacement battery? Here's my story.
I went to the Lenovo site and searched for accessories fitting my X41T model # (1866-6TU) but it says there are none. The 1866 model tablets themselves are still for sale on the site, but the accessories search utility doesn't work. I browsed the batteries page to see what's available, but nothing matched. So, I searched for the part # on the battery itself (P/N 92P1085 and 92P1084 were both listed on the battery). According to Lenovo neither of those parts #s exist. So I came here to the helpful thinkpads.com forum. I searched for "X41T battery" and found many threads and posts. One of the old posts had a direct link to old IBM battery product page (http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/accessories/ba ... tml#tablet). I followed it and discovered the part # is now 73P5168. It's still for sale, and costs $160. And an hour of my time.
Dan.
PS The accessories search box on the aforementioned IBM page works perfectly. Did you know that a replacement pen costs $40? Wow.
-D.
