2672 x30 maximum ram 2gig or 1gig?

from ibm site....
Uses PC133 3.3V 144 pin SoDIMM memory, no support for parity/ECC
Total of 2 memory slot, 1 slot prepopulated with either 64MB or 128MB depending on model
Supports up to two 512 MB SDRAM SO DIMMs
Supports maximum memory up to 1GB

IS THIS TRUE? OR CAN I USE TWO 1gig 144pin STICKS

I have x30 (2672-47G) with 2x256 MB - the 2672 has disappeared from the IBM web site and it is extremely difficult to find advise on the right RAM upgrade.

What is - by the way - the reason for the 1 GB limit - chip set or something else? What will happen if (faster) 1 GB module is inserted?
