Looking for feedback on tablet version

#1 Post by snoggin » Sun Aug 20, 2006 8:09 pm

Hi I have an X60s that works really great for what I use if for. Mobile ofice , e-mail nothing fancy but I am intrigued by the tablet function. I'd like to hear some feedback from people who use the tablet function. How does pen based input differ and is it better than the keyboard. Do you use the tablet for form filling out kind of things/ I can see doctors etc using them. I am a general contractor so I have lots of contracts and proposals and that kind of thing. just think the tablet Idea is kinda cool but dont really know if it would apply to what I do

There is a criminal lawyer I work with frequently who swears by Tablet PCs (he has the Toshiba Satellite Tablet), and for his use it is a perfect fit. He draws lots of diagrams showing the flow of a case, sequence of events and ORG charts for the conspiracy etc, and is able very quickly to integrate those graphics into conventional documents, make contacts and schedule events all through the pen input and much quicker than I could using a conventional keyboard and mouse.

That said, it isn't for me on account of my horrible hand writing that even I cannot read (I'm a fast typist) and the fact that the smallest and lightest tablet is still a good pound or more heavier than what I carry now. If my handwriting was any better I'd be all over an X41T.

Tablets can be great, or they can be a real pain in the butt, it all depends on what you plan on using it for. Personally, I found it really great for making adjustments and notations on pdf documents, spreadsheets and work documents, but most of the time I found that I was using it in simple mobile mode. If you were thinking of every going to a tablet, wait for the X60 version because the added performance will make it a much better experience for you.

Or jump on the X41T at a very low price from someone else who wants the speed bump. I'm sure that when the X60T comes out, there will be many X41 tablets for sale on this board just as when the regular X60 came out lots of people dumped their X40 and X41 laptops.
