making "hibernate" noise while on

#1 Post by fartonmyear » Mon Aug 21, 2006 10:30 pm

ok so you know that sound the x40 makes when you go into hibernate? it's that last noise you hear just before it actually turns off. a mix between a beep and a click. i keep hearing it even when it's on. anyone else having this problem?

I don't have an X40, but based on your description I think this is the same sound I can hear in a T23 when it is shutting down. When you say that you hear it even when the computer is on, do you mean that it does it at regular intervals? I know this is a long stretch, but could that be your hard drive clicking? Both sounds can be quite similar.

the sounds are not similar at all. it's much louder and more annoying. it's a distinct "i'm powering off" sound. like i said, it's the sound it makes when it goes into hibernate.

Yes, it's a louder sound. So you say that your computer is making that sound even when it is not going into hibernation. How often does it do it, and under what conditions?

i'm not sure when it goes on. i think some times i might just tune it out. i notice it a lot when it's quiet. it seems like it happens every minute. i've turned off the active protect thing and it still does it.
