dock for x31 - what are the differences ?!

Hi

can someone tell me the difference between these two docks:

and

what`s the difference ? other than the black "bottom" to place the laptop on I see no difference in the specs. Is there any?

The first goes a lot cheaper on ebay, so I`d like to buy it, but do both work with the x31 equally well?

I have the one with the black bottom, it works fine with the X31, although I removed the bottom plate. I can't say for certain if the other model works, although it looks like they have the same model number.

I figured out that both these are types of the dock I (or dock 1). for the older withdrawn version it says USB 1.1 but for the other version it says it supports the x31...

does the dock 1 feature USB 2.0 with an X31? if it`s only pass-through then it should, or?

My dock port is USB 1.1 even though my X31 has USB2.

hmm that`s really odd.

the dock has 2 usb ports, or? on every picture I have seen it has 2, that`s why I ask. you only mentioned 1 dock port now.

I called lenovo now and they say the Dock I features what the notebook has.

They assured me that if I plug in a X31 that the 2 USB ports on the Dock I are USB 2.0 then.

I am not sure what to believe... can you re-check that, mpcook ?

Both ports on the dock operate as 1.1 even though the X31 ports operate as 2.0.

Uninstall the USB drivers while docked, then reboot the machine and let it reinstall the drivers, then check again.

My X31 had USB2.0 on the dock ports when docked in my 2631-20U, no doubt in my military mind, but I can't duplicate that at the moment as my backup X31 is visiting relatives until Friday.

Thanks, I'll try that and report back. I was disappointed when I got the dock and found I was stuck with 1.1,

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the uSB drivers. My USB ports on the dock are still operating at 1.1 speeds vs. the port on the laptop whihc is 2.0 speed.

I bought one on ebay aswell. Should arrive tomorrow or monday.

Ok, I got the 2631 Dock I now and it does NOT support USB 2.0 with my X31

I called Lenovo/IBM again and they AGAIN told me it should work in 2.0 speeds but it does not. I deinstalled and reinstalled all USB Devices, then rebooted, but still to no avail.

Any ideas? JHEM ?

Running XP? Got SP2 installed? Have you run the software Installer to ensure you have the latest drivers installed? got the latest BIOS and Embedded Controller installed for your system?

I have everything on my system upgraded, and XP SP2 is running aswell.

bios and embedded controller are also on newest version.

no clue what I could do now. I visited both links you supplied aswell, there is nothing on there that could help me or what I have not already done or tried.

It seems to just NOT WORK ... I have no idea what I can try next.

The IBM-Docking-Connector only passes one port through(As can be seen on all Replicators). To avoid this limitation in the docks, IBM uses hubs. At the time of the Dock 1 USB2.0 didn't exist. So the used hub only supports USB1.1.

Bottomline: It is technically impossible to get USB2.0 on the built-in ports.
