X31 Keyboard Question
Hi guys,
Recently acquired my first Thinkpad, a used X31. Very happy with the notebook so far and I can see where the Thinkpad enthusiasm comes from. These are fantastic machines.
My X31 does have one belmish though. It appears that the previous owner has stripped a thread on the bottom of the chassis. It is the front-most single screw/thread for the keyboard. It the screw directly below the trackpoint buttons.
My question is this:
Is the thread located on the chassis itself or is it part of the bottom of the keyboard? If it's part of the keyboard then the solution is simple. I can just buy a new keyboard off eBay and viola, problem solved.
Does anyone know the answer?
Much thanks!

I think, I'm not sure, but any Screws with arrow pointing to them indicate that the screw connects to the keyboard, and if you take those off, you can remove the keyboard. That's how it is on the 600 series.
You should probably wait for an X series owner. I felt like posting to give you a quick answer/thought.

It's what the screw goes into. There is a spiral pattern on the screw and a corresponding spiral pattern in the thread. If you strip (ie damage) either, your screw will not tighten properly._erazor_ wrote:what exactly is a "thread" ?
sorry that I ask this, but I am no native english speaker and for me a "thread" is a topic in a forum

RS_003,
When you say you had one, did you mean you also had a stripped thread and repaired it with a new keyboard?
I am aware that you owned a X31, as indicated by your sig. I just want to double check that you fixed a stripped thread in this manner.
Much thanks!
