x31 with external wide-screen LCD?

#1 Post by tomh009 » Thu Sep 07, 2006 7:39 pm

Has anyone figured out a way to (properly) connect an external wide-screen LCD, such as one of the 1680x1050 resolution models available from a variety of vendors?

Connecting my x31 to a bunch of these panels at the local retailer gave me no options of selection an 8:5 aspect ratio resolution, and instead stretched my image output to fill the screen (ugh). The best was the HP panel which allowed me to maintain the aspect ratio, resulting in black bars on the sides.

Is there any way to get the x31 to support 1680x1050 resolution on an external LCD panenl, either with the standard driver or an alternate one?

Otherwise the only option is a 1600x1200 4:3 panel -- and if my next notebook (x61 perchance?) has an 8:5 display, the external panel will be wrong at that point ... though admittedly the "future" video driver is probably more likely to support the older aspect ratio.

Alas, didn't work for me. :(

I finally found some time to try. Downloaded the latest version of Omega drivers, uninstalled ATI Control Panel, installed Omega drivers, restarted ... and BOOM!

Blue Screen of Death every time I boot, no chance to do anything. So booted in safe mode and it's back to standard ATI drivers for me. I guess I'll have to wait for the x60 before I get a wide-screen external monitor.
