X24 Antenna Routing Help

#1 Post by avexdevil » Thu Sep 14, 2006 2:55 am

Hey guys new around the forums.

I've got a X24 on hand right now, since its the slightly less common FXx series running the 1.06ghz p3m, it doesn't come with the antennas as well.

I've already bought a minipci 802.11b/g card and the internal antenna off ebay AU.

The description of the antenna states its tailored specifically for use under the keyboard, another reason why I got it, I don't trust myself dismantling the LCD bezels and what not...

But before I even start routing the antennas myself, I wonder if anyone else had this experience on a X24 thinkpad??

this is what I got:

The Antenna I got was like this:

I simply placed all three of them in the battery housing and tapped them in place. Two of the anteena are for the mini-pci wireless/modem combo card and the other antenna is not connected to anything since my x24(2660-MQU) didn't come with bluetooth configuration so the BDC card(for x24 w/ bt and x30/x31) I got didn't work. I am still trying to figure if it's just a simple matter of connect something to switch the BDC on.

The reception is not great but ok. It gets 93% of signal strength by using http://tinyurl.com/qv6dr and 4/5 strength by using Intel 2200BG card (6 feet distance, USRobotics 54g router)

I wouldn't suggest to put the antenna under the keyboard because I believe the metal shielding on the back of the keyboard will reduce the signal reception. That is just my opinion though.

Taking the lcd apart is easy, just make sure not to panic or you're going to crack some of the plastics.

nah, something i'm not willing to risk, a replacement easily cost $200 AUD. Plus the antenna I got was meant to be placed under the keyboard...

what i'm worried about is the size of the x24, since it's an ultraportable, i don't think ill be able to find much space under the keyboard to fit the antenna plus the 2 huge metal plates attached.

i'm actually looking for someone who has routed it through the KEYBOARD, routing it through the LCD is not an option, so don't bother helping me in that area. Just wanted to get the point across :).
