Returning x41t to factory state?

#1 Post by frippery19 » Tue Oct 03, 2006 3:57 am

Hi,
I am considering selling my x41 tablet, but I am concerned because I know that just formatting a hard drive will not remove all of the data from it. Is there anything I can do so that when I sell my computer, my data is completely erased and the OS install is exactly as it was when I first received the computer?

Thanks!

You should be able to press F11 on startup and re-image the computer. That formats the hard drive and writes new data (the image) to it. It won't be possible to unformat it after imaging, and it is not likely a buyer could re-construct your data. ... JD Hurst

Yes reformatting and doing the factory install should do a good job at preventing data recovery, but why chance it?

I believe this is the program I use to wipe drives:

Another popular one is Killdisk, not sure if that is Freeware or not. Just get something that does random data wipes (as in fills sectors with random data) and can be set to do so with multiple passes. Most programs have pre-set options DoD standards and such, just use one of those.
Have used just about every ThinkPad since the T42 days...
